GRAND CHAMPION 4-H MARKET BROILERS
Matthew Smith – Runnells, IA
Parents: Roger and Kyle Smith
Biography:
Matthew is a member of the New
Beginnings 4-H Club in Polk County
and also a member of the Southeast
Polk FFA. Matthew has exhibited
poultry, dairy, rabbits, beef
cattle, sheep and swine throughout
his years in 4-H. He has also
exhibited for seven years at the
Iowa State Fair. Smith will be a
senior this fall at Southeast Polk
High School in Pleasant Hill. His
future plans include earning a
degree in animal science. Extra
earnings come from his part-time job
at the Fareway Store in Altoona.
Matthew’s Grand Champion 4-H Market
Broiler pen weighed in at 46.25 lbs.
He has been exhibiting poultry for
seven years. |

Kristin Arkfeld – Earling, IA
Parents: Brian and Mary Arkfeld
Biography:
Kristin is a member of the Lincoln
Leaders 4-H Club in Shelby County.
Her major 4-H projects have included
dog, child development, food and
nutrition and poultry. She has been
exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair
for six years and claimed the Grand
Champion 4-H Market Broiler award in
2004 and the Reserve Champion 4-H
Market Broiler award in 2007 and
2009. Kristin will be a freshman
this fall at Iowa Western Community
College in Council Bluffs, IA where
she plans to study to be a
veterinary technician. |
