Grand Champion FFA Market Hog - $20,000 *
Michael Schreck, Hudson

Biography:
18-year-old Michael Schreck of Hudson captured the Grand Champion FFA Market Hog honor with his 268-lb Yorkshire-crossbred barrow. Michael is a four-year member of the Hudson FFA Chapter and he has served as 4-H county council vice president for the past two years. His 4-H and FFA projects include sheep, breeding heifers and horses. He graduated this year from Dike-New Hartford High School, where he was an all-state football running back and punter; he also competed in basketball and on the state level for track. Michael will attend Hawkeye Community College this fall to major in animal science

Reserve Champion FFA Market Hog - $11,000
Courtney German, Ottumwa

Biography:
Out of 600 head of hogs entered in the competition, Courtney German of Ottumwa took Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Hog honors with her 265-lb belted crossbred gilt. Courtney is a member of the Agri-Power FFA chapter in Wapello County. The 20-year-old attends Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa where she majors in computer programming. She recently completed a summer internship with the Super Valu corporate office in Eden Prairie, Minn.

Buyers:
The Iowa Machine Shed Restaurants with support from Pfizer Inc., PIC, Cyclone Pig Sale and $5,260 local support.

Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog - $17,000 *
Ryan Schneider, Riverside

Biography:
Ryan Schneider of Riverside exhibits the Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog, a 261-lb barrow. Ryan will be a freshman this fall at Highland High School where he participates in football and wrestling. A member of the Riverside Ramblers 4-H club, Ryan’s other projects include cattle and photography. The 14-year-old has exhibited at the Iowa State Fair for the past four years and is active in his church.

Buyers:
Christensen Farms with support from Dave Fenton, Elanco Animal Health, Boehringer Ingelheim, Stutsman’s Supply and $8,180 local support.

Reserve Champion 4-H Market Hog - $38,000 **
Cory Sampson, Nevada

Biography:
In his first year showing hogs at the Iowa State Fair, Cory Sampson brought home the Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog title. Cory is from Nevada and will be in sixth grade this fall. He’s a member of the Richland Mid-State 4-H club and his other projects include beef, communications, woodworking and food and nutrition. Cory is active in his church, a member of the Junior Maine-Anjou Association, plays trombone and competes in soccer, football and basketball.

Buyers:
Iowa Select Farms and IVESCO with support from Lucta USA, ALPHARMA Animal Health, Newsham Genetics, ShowRite/Hubbard Feeds, Swine Genetics International, Mid States Milling, Garst Seed and $10,315 local support.
